Eric Mazur
Lecture is the transfer of the notes of the lecturer to the notes of the student without passing through either.
Eric Mazur (http://ericmazur.com/) è docente di fisica ad Harvard ed è considerato uno dei pionieri della flipped classroom. La sua strategia didattica è basata essenzialmente sul peer learning per rafforzare il coinvolgimento degli studenti e l’apprendimento efficace e duraturo.
Conferenziere di fama internazionale, affianca all’attività di ricerca in fisica quella di formatore e innovatore pedagogico.
Ha ricevuto numerosi premi e riconoscimenti per l’innovazione apportata nella metodologia didattica tra i quali, nel 2014, il Minerva Prize for Advancements in Higher Education con questa motivazione:
“He has used a scientist’s mindset to formulate and perfect a new approach to teaching that complements what we already know about how students learn. That’s catching on internationally because it prepares graduates to engage with difficult problems beyond the classroom walls.”
Il suo libro “Peer Instruction: A User’s Manual” (1997) sul peer learning ha ispirato molti docenti in tutto il mondo a ripensare la propria metodologia didattica.
Nel suo famoso video “Confessions of a converted lecturer” (2009) dice:
“I thought I was a good teacher until I discovered my students were just memorizing information rather than learning to understand the material. Who was to blame? The students? The material? I will explain how I came to the agonizing conclusion that the culprit was neither of these. It was my teaching that caused students to fail! I will show how I have adjusted my approach to teaching and how it has improved my students’ performance significantly.”
